Youth Internship Opportunities

Picture
The Hill Country SPCA offers Summer Internships to Youth Volunteers each summer. We are limited to 4 - 8 Internship each summer.

Requirements to apply

  • Interns must be between the ages of 14 - 17 at the start of June 2020
  • Interns must complete a Internship Application (below), and come in for an internship interview.
  • Interns must be able to commit to at least 6 hours each week. This can be split into two smaller 3 hour shifts.                                            (This is a scheduled shift and Interns are expected to show up as they would for a regular job)
  • We do ask interns be available and willing to work at least one, of our Critter Camps, which run Monday - Friday 8am-1:30pm.
Some of the basics we cover with our interns is; Dog Kennel Cleaning, Cat Kennel Cleaning; Sanitation; Pet Overpopulation; Disease Prevention; Basic Animal Medical (Vaccination, heartworm testing, microchipping, deworming, etc.); and lastly they get to work hands on enriching the lives of shelter pets and learn why the Hill Country SPCA exists and what our role in the community is. They also participate in our Youth Education programming over the summer, teaching our Critter Campers all about responsible pet ownership and so much more.

Our interns are also invited to attend local offsite adoption events, Parades, as well as continuing their volunteer work even after completing their internship!
At the end of the 2020 Summer our Interns will be recognized with a letter of recommendation from our Executive Director outlining both their performance here with the Hill Country SPCA, as well as knowledge and leadership skills gained. We will also provide Interns with a program evaluation and hours logged, so that they may use hours towards extra curricular activities if needed.
