Foster Program
Why Foster?
Foster care provides a needed break from shelter life. Most of our fosters are neonatal animals too young for adoption, those recovering from surgery or other health issues, and in some cases just long-term dogs who could use some time off! For some of these animals landing a foster home is a life or death situation, and other cases it provides a much needed quality of life benefit. Fostering a shelter animal is a very rewarding experience, but it also requires lots of hard work and dedication. Who can Foster? Anyone! We would love it if you had some basic animal care knowledge, but even if you don't one of our staff members would be happy to sit down with you and talk about your potential fosters needs. It is a great way to get hand on animal care experience and see if owning a pet is right for you! Our staff provides assistance every step of the way so you never have to worry about being in over your head. While a pet is in foster care the Hill Country SPCA will provide food, bowls, leashes & collars, collars, crates, and additional supplies as needed. We also cover the cost of all necessary medical care when approved by staff and taken to our regular veterinarian. |
