Hill Country SPCA COVID-19 Response

Moving to Appointment Only Status

The Hill Country SPCA is following CDC guidelines & request if you or anyone with whom you live is unwell, please refrain from coming to the shelter until seen by a healthcare professional.

The Hill Country SPCA is dedicated to the well being of the animals under our care, and committed to the support of our pet parents, staff and community. We are remaining operational at this time so that we can continue to serve our stakeholders.

Although current evidence states that the COVID-19 virus is neither transferable to nor transferable from companion animals, it is important to us to provide a safe environment for our clients and our team members. Based on recommendations by the Center for Disease Control, we will operate on an appointment basis only—to limit the number of people in the shelter. In addition, we have placed hand sanitizers and have increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting all high-touch surfaces throughout our facility.
To make an appointment, please click the button Below!

Please ONLY schedule Adoption or Foster Appointments if you have already spoken with staff!
Help Us Help Others
In preparation for possible emergency intake of surrendered pets, we need to adopt or find foster homes for some of the dogs and cats currently at our shelter. We are reaching out for help in the following ways:

- Adopt: If you’d like to adopt one of our pets, please click on the link above to fill out and submit an application.

- Foster: We are seeking emergency fosters for some of the dogs and cats in our shelter.

- Donate: We anticipate the need for our sheltering, behavioral and food bank services to increase as conditions in our area worsen.

- Food Bank: Our food bank will continue to be open and our trained staff is here to help you with pet behavioral issues; send us a message via the form below.

While Visiting...

We do require all visitors wear a mask while on site.
This is for your health and safety as well as our staff. We reserve the right to refuse services to those without a mask.
When you get to the shelter, please stay in your car and call (830)990-9085. Staff will assist you from there. If you MUST leave your car, please ring the doorbell and remember to keep a 6 foot distance at all times.

If you are here for medical services, we will bring the animal inside and will bring them back out to you once done, you will not be allowed inside the shelter with them. If you pre-adopted a kitten or puppy, we will bring the animal to your car so please have a crate for us to place them in. (We are not able to do meet and greets for puppies or kittens at this time). If you are here meeting an adult dog or cat, please pull around the right side of our building where the two wooden gates are, and give us a call at (830)990-9085, and staff will give you instructions from there. Please stay in your car until after speaking with staff.

We are only allowing two members of the same household on site, for the entirety of your visit. Please do not bring friends or additional household members at this time. Your safety is our number one priority!

Free Pet Food Pantry

The Hill Country SPCA wants to be sure that no one has to give up his or her beloved pet ever, and especially now, when limited resources make it hard to cover even the essentials. We have stocked up our food bank to ensure that you have the food you need for your dogs or cats.

We’ve made it easy to get what you need. Simply fill out the form from the link below. On the day and time you specified, we’ll set your food, identified with your name, outside of the side door of our facility (to your right facing the building). If you are unable to come to the shelter, let us know and we will deliver the food to you.

Information for Adopters

You may be wondering how COVID-19 is changing the Hill Country SPCA adoption process, and GOOD NEWS! There isn't much changing in the way we will be processing adoptions. See below for the current adoption process.

A typical adoption goes something like this…
  1. View our adoptable animals online ( View Dogs Here & View Cats Here )
  2. Find a dog or cat you are interested in.
  3. Once you have decided your interested in one or more of our pets, complete and submit an adoption application (linked below). It takes us approximately 48 hours to process each pet application (We are short staffed at this time).  Pets do not go home the same day the application is submitted.
  4. When the application has been processed, a staff member will call to let you know you have been approved, or contact you if additional information is required.
  5. Upon approval, we will arrange an appointment time when you are able to come to Hill Country SPCA and meet with the animal you are interested in.
  6. Our staff will set you up in our outdoor courtyard to spend some one-on-one time with your new potential companion, so you can get to know each other.
  7. As long as it is a match you just need to sign your adoption contract, and take your new pet home! We are not placing holds at this time and you should be prepared to take your new companion home on the day of your visit.

The Hill Country SPCA is following CDC guidelines & request if you or anyone with whom you live is unwell, please refrain from coming to the shelter until seen by a healthcare professional.

**Please be aware we ARE NOT currently adopting out of state.
