Classroom Programs

The Hill Country SPCA would love the opportunity to reach more children, the future of animal welfare will be in there hands before we know it! We understand the need to keep children engaged and for that reason we provide interactive lessons for all age groups! We present to classrooms, youth groups, after school programs, and more!

Children generally love animals, and it presents an unique way to teach them about subjects that may otherwise be boring or difficult to visualize. Some of the areas we like to focus on are;
Safety Around Animals

  • Responsible Pet Care

  • Careers with Animals

  • Pet Overpopulation

  • Shelters role in our community

  • Compassion and Empathy

  • and much, much more!

If you have something specific you are working on and would like us to cover, please let us know. We are happy to tailor our lessons to meet the needs of each individual group.

We do bring a ambassador animal, However due to the unknown temperaments of shelter dogs, most interactions are done with staff owned animals known as ambassadors, who have been adopted from the shelter, or temperament approved shelter dogs. We are also happy to bring an ambassador cat or small animal when available and allergies permit.

Expectations

The Hill Country SPCA does ask that students be in their seats, and ready when we arrive. We do expect teacher or group organizers to be present while we are presenting. Presentation length depends on topic and available classroom time, but is generally anywhere from 20-45 minutes.

Giving Back

The Hill Country SPCA can provide guidance as well as handout material to schools or groups looking to do service projects or supply drives! Please reach out to us directly at Programs@hillcountryspca.com for more information on this!
