The Hill Country SPCA was founded by volunteers and continues to
depend on volunteers for its ongoing success. Whatever your special
skill, we can use you!
If you are looking for a fun, rewarding way
to give back to your community, join us in improving the lives of
companion animals in the Texas Hill Country.

Animal Care Volunteers
help the staff of the Trudy Brune Hill Country SPCA care for and support
our animal friends while they await adoption into a loving new home.
|
 |
They walk the dogs, teach them basic manners and obedience, and may
help bathe and groom them, if they wish.
Best of all, our animal care volunteers get to pet and play with the
dogs and cats and puppies and kittens in our care.
Daily interaction with a variety of people is good for our animals,
enhancing their socialization and ensuring that they are always ready
for adoption.
So, if you love anything with four legs and a tail, this is the “job”
for you.
Youth Volunteers are a special group of Animal Care Volunteers who
help out on Saturdays and during school vacations and the summer.
Youth volunteers must be 13 years of age and interested in dogs and
cats.
Youth Volunteers also participate in the Weinachten Parade and other
special events.
|
Desk Volunteers serve as front desk receptionists, freeing staff members to spend more
time caring for the animals. |
 |
Desk volunteers welcome visitors to the shelter, answer the phone,
and sell shirts and ball caps and other HCSPCA products.
They may also help maintain various shelter records, write thank you
notes to donors, and assist in community outreach activities.
Desk volunteers often bring a dog or a cat to the front desk for
special one-on-one attention.
If you are outgoing and like to interact with people as well as
animals, this would be a good spot for you.
Grounds/Landscape Volunteers help maintain the Trudy Brune Hill
Country SPCA building and grounds.
They plant and mow and weed and trim, but many hands make for light
work and great companionship.
If gardening is your passion, this is the perfect volunteer job for
you!
Community Outreach Volunteers work with youth groups such as
the 4H or Scouts, make educational presentations, and support the
HC SPCA’s participation in parades and festivals.
These volunteers design and decorate floats for the Fourth of July,
County Fair, and Weinachten Parades, and often ride or walk in the
parades.
In addition, they take animals to special events organized by
merchants in our community as well as to nursing homes and senior
citizen centers.
If contributing to the “special something” that makes Fredericksburg
unique is your volunteer goal, community outreach may be just the thing
for you.
Fund Raising Volunteers help organize, publicize, and stage fund
raisers and special events.
Each fall we stage a direct mail
Annual Giving Drive to raise
operating funds, and we sponsor a reception in January to thank our
annual giving donors.
We also put on several signature events each year:
At Christmas, Santa Paws provides you or your pet the
opportunity to have a picture taken with Santa Claus.
Paddy’s Party, at which we encourage everybody to “Wear
Green, Drink Green, and Bring Green,” celebrates the crazy fun of St.
Patrick’s Day.
Dog Trot, a 5K Fun Run/Walk, takes place the third
weekend in May. Breakfast and lunch are available, and toe tapping music
adds to the fun.
So, if you are looking for an occasional volunteer activity, consider
becoming one of “Paddy’s Pals” or joining the “Trot Patrol” or helping out
with Santa Paws or the Annual Giving program.
Newsletter Volunteers write articles for and assemble
PawPrints,
our quarterly newsletter.
If you like to write, or would enjoy chatting while readying the
newsletter for mailing, this is the spot for you.
If you are able to help with in any of the above areas, please contact the
