Animal Care Academy
New for 2019, the Hill Country SPCA is introducing a one of a kind program, Animal Care Academy. An Advanced youth course in animal care aimed at those with a passion for animals, or desire to work with animals as a career. This is a rigors full week program where students will work hands on with our shelter management team to learn and explore animal welfare, as well as many other different opportunities animal care presents.
As part of this program students will have the opportunity to asses and choose an animal to pull into the Hill Country SPCA's program. The students will then work one on one with their rescue animal all week, helping care and clean up after them, providing basic intake medical, as well as photographing, training, and providing adoption descriptions. Students will also have the opportunity to observe a spay/neuter surgery at one of our local clinics, and will get to talk one on one with some of our local Veterinarians.
As a part of Animal Care Academy students will also be visiting San Antonio Zoo, San Antonio Animal Care Services, as well as numerous local animal care and control facilities to learn about the different types of animal welfare and how we all work together to save some of the most vulnerable animals in our communities. Students will have many more opportunities to work hands on with many different types of animals, as well as hear from animal professionals.
